Unadilla 2 GP Race Report: Battles Until The Finish

New Berlin, New York (May 11, 2025)- After a muddy Saturday filled with challenges, we were treated to the best possible conditions on Sunday, making it a fantastic day for racing. Round 4 of the JDay Offroad Championship series kicked off with a freshly groomed track that had a slightly tacky base, setting the stage for some thrilling motos. There were plenty of intense battles throughout the day, which made for an exciting racing experience. Riding at Unadilla is always special, as it’s a place where many legends of this sport have triumphed, and we were on the same track they once rode. My favorite part of day two was definitely the woods layout, featuring newly cut trails and areas we had never raced in before. The PeeWee classes started the morning off with a bang, benefiting from the improved conditions compared to the previous day. A huge shoutout to all the amazing track crew for working tirelessly to ensure everyone's safety and providing the best conditions possible for the riders. Your hospitality and dedication truly shine through, making JDay Offroad events so enjoyable. We appreciate everything you do to put on such fantastic races!

Supermini Podium; Grant Meacham (1st) Dj Leblanc (2nd) Trevor Harris (3rd).

WOMEN'S PRO/ AM - Womens set the stage once again with some fast racers! In the Women Pro class Addison Harris took the win in Moto 1 with Kayla Oneill in 2nd and Nykea Williams in 3rd. They charged their whole motos even lapping guys that are in lines behind them. Moto 2 was the same Addison Harris delivered an impressive performance in the Women’s Pro class, finishing a remarkable 33 seconds ahead of Kayla Oneill, who secured the second spot. Nykea Williams once again showcased her skills, rounding out the podium in third place. Meanwhile, in the Women’s AM category, Kendyl Gaetani had an outstanding day with two flawless motos, clinching a perfect 1-1 record and sailing through without any fierce competition, which earned her the overall victory. Seana Bohan followed closely behind in second, and Mariah Hopkins from Plaistow Powersports took home third place for the day.

Destry Tucker Mini Jr (6-12) Winner.

INTERVIEW - Sunday was like any other race day for some riders but others they secured their first overall wins this weekend. I spoke to Ryan Ravosa ; C Veteran rider about his awesome motos on Sunday. Ryan first started racing in 2020 but didn't start taking it seriously until the 2024 season where he raced every round.

Were there any struggles you endured through the race day that held you up?

You could say that... rolled down to the line for moto 1, 30 seconds board goes up and went to click into gear only to look down and see the tip of my shifter laying in the dirt next to me. Knowing I had to at least try and salvage some points I put it in second and waited for the flag to drop. Got a decent start and was able to fumble it into 3rd gear. Finished the whole race in 3rd but still somehow was able to find a good flow and get the moto win.

Was there a moment during the race when you realized you could actually win it?

During moto 1, I was able to maintain about a 20 second lead all the way to the finish. It wasn't until about an hour later I realized Justin, who has taken the first 3 overall wins, came in third. That meant I only needed 2nd place to win in moto 2. After losing a few places getting stuck behind a stalled rider, I finally caught back up to second place with 1 lap to go and after battling for half a lap was able to get around. I knew if I could just keep him behind me I would get the win.

What does this first overall win mean to you personally, and how do you think it will shape your future in racing?

That win means a lot. I've always known I could do it but it just hasn't happened until now. My dad used to race back in the 70s/80s so to have him there for the first one was awesome! It really lit a fire inside me to keep pushing and fight for the #1 plate at the end of the year.

FEATURED CLASS: A OPEN - This event showcased riders in the A class, utilizing bikes of any CC engine size. As the flags waved, A Open kicked off alongside A Vet, with the largest A line featuring 21 competitors. Teajinn Ingersoll made a strong start, leading after the first lap, closely followed by Kaden Houle. By the second lap, Kaden took the lead, while Patrick Gougeon surged from third to claim the lead on lap three, holding it until the checkered flag. In the second moto, Teajinn Ingersoll once again led the opening lap, demonstrating impressive starts throughout the day, with Patrick Gougeon trailing just one second behind at the end of lap one. On lap two, Gougeon seized the lead from Ingersoll and pulled ahead, finishing the moto a remarkable 37 seconds in front. Meanwhile, Jack Brining and Kaden Houle fought fiercely for third place, with Brining ultimately securing third overall for the day. The podium features Patrick Gougeon taking home the A Overall Trophy in 1st place, followed by Teajinn Ingersoll in 2nd and Jack Brining in 3rd.

Brett Grimes A Veteran Winner on the Grass Track.

Pro 125- Am Pro Yamaha's competitor, Brandon Gregoire, appeared to have a turnaround in his performance on Sunday, showcasing more consistent laps. He secured the Fox Racing holeshot, which set the stage for an excellent start to the motos. By the conclusion of the first lap, Gregoire had already established a 9-second lead over second-place Justin Cokinos; Plaistow Powersports rider. Following closely was Beta rider Brayden Nolette, just one second behind. Nolette successfully overtook Cokinos for second on the second lap, but Cokinos managed to reclaim the position shortly after, with Taylor Beckwith closing in on both riders. Unfortunately for Cokinos, a crash in the woods had him drop back to fourth place by the final lap, while Gregoire maintained his lead in first, followed by Nolette in second and Beckwith in third. In Moto 2, Brandon once again excelled at the start, kicking off the race in the lead. At the end of lap one, Cokinos trails the leader by 8 seconds and is 4 seconds behind Taylor Beckwith in third. Brayden Nolette struggled at the start, having to fight his way from 6th place after the first lap to finish in 3rd by the end. Nolette and Beckwith engaged in several battles for the 3rd spot, which Nolette needed to secure for 2nd overall on the day. Brandon Gregoire finished with a perfect 1-1 this weekend, while Brayden Nolette claimed 2nd overall, currently holding the 3rd position in points, Justin Cokinos finished in 3rd, 2nd in points- 8 points adrift Gregoire.

Pro 125 Podium: Brandon Gregoire (1st), Brayden Nolette (2nd) Justin Cokinos (3rd).

PRO AA- Last moto of the weekend always feels like the longest race but holds so much intensity. The Fox racing Flag dropped for the last time this weekend at Unadilla for Jday Offroad, Brandon Gregoire; Am Pro racing backed rider and Beta Rider Brayden Nolette are side by side. Evan Smith another AM Pro Yamaha rider up front in the first moto of Pro AA. 7 Yamahas round out the top 10 positions in this class. Smith was able to keep the pressure on Gregoire from no more than 10 seconds behind all race finishing only 4 seconds behind Gregoire. Justin Cokinos; Plaistow Powersports rider made the pass from 4th to 3rd in the second lap and was able to hold onto that position the rest of the race as well.

Pro AA Podium: Brandon Gregoire (1st), Evan Smith(2nd) Justin Cokinos (3rd).

Taylor Beckwith kicked off the Pro AA Moto 2 with an impressive lead during the first lap, but his bike unfortunately malfunctioned on lap two finsihing with a DNF. By the conclusion of lap two, Gregoire had taken the lead, with Evan Smith trailing closely in second, maintaining a gap of no more than 12 seconds. Justin Cokinos held onto third place, while Brayden Nolette, riding for Beta, was in hot pursuit, staying just 1 to 3 seconds behind Cokinos, creating an exciting battle on the track. Ultimately, Brandon Gregoire crossed the finish line 9 seconds ahead of Evan Smith, who secured second, while Justin Cokinos finished 46 seconds behind Smith in third. As Round 5 approaches, the current standings reflect: Brandon Gregoire in 1st with 97 points, Justin Cokinos in 2nd with 89 points, and Brayden Nolette in 3rd with 74 points. Unadilla provided thrilling competition, showcasing a mix of high-speed valleys, grassy tracks, and intricate wooded areas, blending the best elements of racing. This weekend, Unadilla truly was the place to be!
